just got back from Vegas, but actually didn't check it out

There were lines just to get in the door and it is obviously generating a lot of buzz

however, the overall impression I got when talking to people out there is that it is not as nice as the Bellagio

i was on my way to check it out, made the mistake of bringing a stroller; was turned away by toy-guards saying you cant have a stroller here. Interesting. Then cursing underneath my breath as my wife and child were with me, someone noticed i was upset and said that Steve Wynn lost an eye when he was young falling out of a stroller or something like that. I had a bowl of hot soup accidentally spilled on me when i was 8 but still eat it. Well its his casino, and it is Veags so anything applies.

PLAYER'S EDGE: Wynn offers high-tech chips, lower-than-average video poker return

While others have raved about the architecture, dining, golf, shopping and other amenities at Wynn Las Vegas, we are gaming writers so we'll write about the games.

Blackjack players will find double-deck and six-deck games where dealers stand on all 17s, along with some six-deck shoes and continual shuffle games where dealers hit soft 17s. Single zero roulette (with "en prison" -- even-money bets receiving half their money back when the zero hits) is available in the High Limit salon, and craps offers 3x-5x odds. All table games use state-of-the-art Radio Frequency Identification chips that assist the casino in surveillance, as well as tracking each player's action. Many knowledgeable players hope chips like these are not the wave of the future.

Dollar and higher video poker players will find ample 9/6 Jacks or Better, 9/7 Double Bonus, 8/5 Bonus, and 9/6 Double Double Bonus games. Half dollar and lower players will find tighter games, as is typical for the Strip. The Deuces Wild game is worse-than-average 20-12-10-4-4-3 (97.6% when played well) in all denominations between 25 cents and $100. That's disappointing!

Wynn's players club, discreetly named "The Red Card," can be used to track not only your machine play, but all games throughout the casino including tables, poker and the race and sports book. In fact, management would prefer you show the Red Card throughout the casino whenever you purchase a product or service as it is connected to a large data-warehouse designed to gather as much information as possible on each player (which can be used to create very personalized direct mail).

"The Red Card" awards points at a rate of one point per $9 of coin in for video poker and $3 for slots. Once a player earns 500 points ($1,500 coin-in on slots and a high $4,500 coin-in on video poker) he can then download $10 at the machines and play it through at least once. As each point is worth 2¢, the return on video poker is worth 0.22 percent, which is lower than average for the Strip, and the return on slots 0.67 percent, which is about average.

In addition to the regular slot club points, all players using their Red Card are eligible for random Bingo Bonuses, which are distributed using Acres System software, the same company that designed Jumbo Jackpots for Station Casinos.

Local players can sign up for the cards at one of the two very well-located booths on the casino floor. Hotel guests can skip that step, however, as their room key is also a "Red Card" which will sign you up into the system on first use.

Steve Fezzik reports on the sportsbook:

Limits are 2k totals, 10k sides, and all limits are guidelines only (they can go up, not down!)

Two team 6 point NFL teasers are -110 (Most places in Vegas have -120).

Season Wins about to be posted there with the highest limits our there anywhere.

This place is going to rock! They appear to be utilizing the 2004 Golden Nugget approach, aggressively booking, and taking big limits. I like it!
sounds like one of the better books in Vegas
