we took in 500 homeless families from new orleans tonight and every one of them were taken in by other families into thier homes. it was fast cuz i sure didnt know this was happening till it did,and it looks like most refugees will not return to new orleans. this is going to be terrible for america overall and the future is grim.but god bless these unfortunate victims. if a major quake struck here and i became homeless i dont know how id make it fending for myself. i hope friends and family come to my aid and i dont get raped by looters. :o

It is really hard to remain objective after having seen what everyone has seen on TV.....on one hand the rescue machine has failed. It is simply unacceptable that the core of the rescue effort kicked in 4 (FOUR) days after the storm.

On the other hand what has been going on in the town in those 4 days is beyond belief. Killings, looting, rapes..... this is the other major weakness of the system that surfaced in this tragedy: social impairness has reached its highest level.

Heads will surely roll after responsibilites will be allocated. This however is just the surface. America, its politicians, its people need to address the Country's social problems without further delays.

Its not only about financial relief and rebuilding. The social backbone of the Country needs to be rebuilt and education has to be the main focus and milestone upon which this recontruction efforts shall begin.

Most of the victims (as well as the killers, looters, rapists) not only belong to the lower and poorer classes. They appear to be borderline with illiteracy, let alone any other form of education.

Any modern society is doomed to fail if it doesn't invest in providing education to its people. This will be the real challenge.

very well said tow. i agree totally. i doubt any heads will roll tho,no ones head rolled after 9/11 so fingers will continue being pointed but thats about it. the scarey inaction of this government has me terrified.were told a terrorist attack worse than 9/11 will come and when it does we are on our own.new orleans is a clear sign there is no official plan of action. the greatest country in the world is inept and impotent in times of disaster for its own people.oh sure the actions going on now are stellar and amazing but so many died while FEMA and everyone else figured out what to do. the world saw what happened.this nation is at its most vulnerable point right now and any terror attack could ruin us and thats what scares me.im not prepared for a disaster.i pray if a low grade dirty nuke is set off here that im in the blast zone cuz dieing a slow horrible death would be hell and being robbed, raped and shot at while suffering would be the worst hell imaginable.

If they can make it in Diego its a step up in class, what a beautiful city. Hell, the weather alone is worth the change, I just hope they can find jobs for the new "citizens".
