I'm not a horse player but I don't see how it's possible to buck the 17% hold unless you have inside info. The rebates that are available help but you are still looking at a huge hold.

Lots of good horse guys here including Judge so tell me if they are truely beatable long term.

By that reasoning, sports futures are impossible to beat as well, probably even more so than horses

This is something i calculated back at the beginning of August

Somebody said...
some other books' theoretical hold on AL pennant futures (current lines):

5 dimes: 15.49%

VIPSports: 15.69%

Pinnacle: 18.54%

RoyalSports: 20.29%

Intertops: 23.59%

Sports Interaction: 24.66%

CaribSports: 26.87%

BoDog: 27.82%

Mansion Sportsbook: 28.75%

BetJamaica 38.23%

BetOnSports: 45.36%

BCN Sports: 49.93%

If you play futures at Pinny you are playing into a larger house hold than horses, and you don't get the rebate either.

You didn't even factor in the bookshop earns interest on your money and you don't. A $500 wager could have gone in a GIC or puchased an oil stock instead of sitting in some bookies kick. A future play on credit is another story.

dr black,

you bring up an interesting point. i once posted a couple years ago wondering what books do with post up monies while they are holding them. a gic or oil stocks are great ideas, but there are more profitable albeit less leagle ways to invest that money too.....
