Notes:
It looked like a big day, but a couple blown leads in the National League disappointed us. For the Phillies, it was a costly loss, as they sole possession of the NL Wild Card. They've picked a bad time to hit the skids.
The Marlins stormed back to beat St. Louis and Ray King. That was key win for them.
The Angels are choking under pressure. They are the divisional champs from 2004, so they should have been able to take care of Tampa Bay last weekend (they got swept) and then focus on the A's this series. But perhaps they aren't up to the task. If they don't make the playoffs after leading the division nearly all season, it will be a choke job. They have a much bigger payroll than Oakland, and they should have put them away when they had the chance.
Dramatic come-from-behind win for Boston, as they open their AL West lead.
Meanwhile, the only thing that could slow down Cleveland last night was mother nature.

Final Line Grading Policy for Marginal Dogs:
In the event that the play changes from the overnight newsletter, the closing line at Wagerline.com will be used to grade the game:
http://www.wagerline.com/mlb.asp
The exception to this is if Wagerline mistakenly posts no line for the game (NL) or when Wagerline mistakenly posts the game twice. In such cases, Pinnacle's closing line will be used as an emergency backup source.
When we refer to "Pinnacle's closing line," we're referring to the posted closing line at theRx.com for the line from Pinnacle sportsbook that is that webpage.
Here's where you will find those emergency backup closing lines:

American League:
Chicago @ TEXAS +111, 2PM...Official play will be on Chicago if they are the game time dog at Wagerline. Otherwise, play remains on Texas.
CWS: O. Hernández (8-6, 4.65)
TEX: K. Loe (6-4, 3.75)
OAKLAND +108 @ Los Angeles, 10PM...NO PLAY ON LOS ANGELES. It is our subjective opinion that the A's hot streak ends here. But you never know. Lackey is having a pretty good season.
OAK: J. Blanton (8-9, 3.61)
LAA: J. Lackey (10-5, 3.59)
National League:
Game 1 of DH
WASHINGTON +104 @ Atlanta, 4:30PM...Official play will be on Atlanta if they are the game time dog at Wagerline. Otherwise, play remains on Washington.
There is conflicting reports of who the starters will be in which of the DH games. We'll go with Pinnacle's lineup:
WAS: E. Loaiza (9-9, 3.57)
ATL: J. Thomson (3-4, 4.97)
Game 2 of DH
WASHINGTON +136 @ Atlanta, 8PM...Ironically, Washington has the better chance of winning Game 2 given the pitching matchups. But the oddsmakers don't see it that way.
WAS: L. Hernández (14-6, 3.87)
ATL: H. Ramírez (10-8, 4.52)
Los Angeles @ CHICAGO +99, 2:20PM...Official play will be on LA if they are the game time dog at Wagerline. Otherwise, play remains on Chicago.
LAD: D. Lowe (8-13, 4.11)
CHC: G. Rusch (5-7, 4.35)
ST. LOUIS +97 @ Florida, 7PM...Official play will be on Florida if they are the game time dog at Wagerline. Otherwise, play remains on St. Louis. Vargas has done a remarkable job for Florida, and has kept them in the playoff hunt.
STL: J. Suppan (12-10, 4.02)
FLA: J. Vargas (5-1, 3.16) |
