Dogs Formula

See below for our line grading policy. It will explain how we are coming up with our official plays each day and how we are grading our official plays. Or re-read the "Dogs Line Policy" email that was sent out.

Notes:

Purists might not like it, but the Wild Card is keeping a lot of excitement with the MLB playoff races. In a year when many divisions boring races, both leagues have incredible Wild Card races. It's now a 3 team tie in the AL, and in the NL, 5 teams are still in the Wild Card hunt.

================

Final Line Grading Policy for Marginal Dogs:

In the event that the play changes from the overnight newsletter, the closing line at Wagerline.com will be used to grade the game:
http://www.wagerline.com/mlb.asp

The exception to this is if Wagerline mistakenly posts no line for the game (NL) or when Wagerline mistakenly posts the game twice. In such cases, Pinnacle's closing line will be used as an emergency backup source.

When we refer to "Pinnacle's closing line," we're referring to the posted closing line at theRx.com for the line from Pinnacle sportsbook that is that webpage.

Here's where you will find those emergency backup closing lines:

Check out the underdog lines at Bowmans.com and Pinnacle to improve your results.

American League:

NOTE: Pinnacle's site is currently down for maintanence. These lines are from Bowmans.com. When Pinnacle's site is back up tomorrow, we will resume getting the lines from that source.

Oakland @ DETROIT +120, 7PM...Identical ERAs, but Haren pitches for the better team. Tigers have not been a good dog the past several weeks after starting the season pulling off several upsets. Oakland's back-to-back losses against KC was a shock. The problem with the A's is their offense can suddenly get shut down at any time.
OAK: D. Haren (10-9, 4.00)
DET: N. Robertson (5-10, 4.00)

CHICAGO +158 @ Minnesota, 8PM...No one has had more luck versus us than Santana. We've lost a few +200 games against him in the 9th inning/ extra innings. Garcia can deliver the win here, but has Chicago's offense truly gotten out of their slump yet? Chisox have been an outstanding dog all season, but their recent 7 game skid has everyone wondering if they are just a regular season phenom. Acquiring Griffey would help, but until the past week, it appeared Chicago might have enough without him. Now, it appears they could be vulnerable in the playoffs.
CWS: F. GarcĂa (11-5, 3.65)
MIN: J. Santana (12-6, 3.37)

National League:

St. Louis @ Pittsburgh, 7PM...NO PLAY ON PITTSBURGH. If St. Louis is the dog at game time at Wagerline, they will be an official play.

One thing you can bet on: Marquis will not be in a Cardinal uniform next season. If the Pirates would have just held on to their talen the past 12 years, they would be an outstanding team. If they let players like Duke get away, then why have a MLB franchise to begin with? They simply are not committed to winning - and it's a shame for their fans. If a relatively small market like Minnesota can hold on to its good players, then there is not an excuse in Pittsburgh. Bottom line is, their ownership doesn't care as much about winning.
STL: J. Marquis (9-12, 4.36)
PIT: Z. Duke (6-0, 1.87)

Florida @ MILWAUKEE +132, 8PM...Finally, the Marlins appear to be playing like most pundits expected them to this season. Capuano is capable of winning this, however. The Brewers are a decent home team, and they will surprise when you least expect it.
FLA: J. Beckett (12-6, 3.15)
MIL: C. Capuano (13-8, 3.61)

Atlanta @ Chicago, 8PM...Cubs are currently the dog - NO PLAY ON CHICAGO. If Atlanta is the dog at game time at Wagerline, they will be an official play.

Thomson has not been terribly impressive lately, but Williams did not bring much when he came over from San Francisco.
ATL: J. Thomson (3-3, 4.53)
CHC: J. Williams (3-6, 5.13)

NEW YORK +125 @ Arizona, 9:40PM...Mets are not out of it yet, but they do have a major challenge ahead of them if they are to make the playoffs. Zambrano has not been part of the answer for them this year.
NYM: V. Zambrano (6-10, 4.24)
ARI: C. Vargas (7-6, 4.47)

Houston @ SAN DIEGO +100, 10PM...Official play will be on Houston if they are the game time dog at Wagerline. Otherwise, play remains on San Diego.

If Milwaukee can get to Clemens like they did last week, then there's hope for us here. Peavy has not pitched as well lately, however.
HOU: R. Clemens (11-5, 1.53)
SD: J. Peavy (10-6, 3.14)

Philadelphia @ SAN FRANCSICO +120, 10:15PM...Both pitchers have been an utter disappointment this season. Giants have an unbelievably poor home record. Basically, all they can hope for is that Bonds comes back in September and gives the team some life and the fans something to cheer about.
PHI: V. Padilla (6-11, 4.47)
SF: B. Tomko (7-13, 4.72)
