Notes:
Two proud organizations, the Dodgers and the Giants, are both an embarrassment at this point. Milton Bradley is making things worse in Los Angeles with his annual antics.
The season couldn't end soon enough for both clubs. We can't remember a season when both teams were so bad in the same year. In Los Angeles, it starts at the top. That organization has been driven into the ditch by their "boy wonder" GM. The owners need a clue, and they can afford to buy a clue.
In San Francisco, we won't go as far as the media guy who said Felipe Alou has a mind of mush, but we never did think highly of Alou's managerial skills. But, the dismal season there is a collective effort. The Wheez Kids have not worked out there.
Across the Bay, Oakland stripped themselves of two proven winning pitchers, and as we write this, they are tied for the Wild Card lead. Both LA and San Fran went after costly players and it blew up in their face. Oakland played the low budget game again, and so far anyway, it has worked in their favor.
----
The Wild Card races couldn't get any tighter, and both could come down to the wire.

Final Line Grading Policy for Marginal Dogs:
In the event that the play changes from the overnight newsletter, the closing line at Wagerline.com will be used to grade the game:
http://www.wagerline.com/mlb.asp
The exception to this is if Wagerline mistakenly posts no line for the game (NL) or when Wagerline mistakenly posts the game twice. In such cases, Pinnacle's closing line will be used as an emergency backup source.
When we refer to "Pinnacle's closing line," we're referring to the posted closing line at theRx.com for the line from Pinnacle sportsbook that is that webpage.
Here's where you will find those emergency backup closing lines:

American League:
TORONTO +179 @ New York, 1PM...Chacin gives us hope here, but we're not anticipating they will beat the Bronx Bombers back to back on the road (subjective opinion). Chacon has an impressive ERA in limited innings.
Yankees have to be considered the favorite to win the AL Wild Card, but Cleveland does have the easiet schedule as compared to New York and Oakland. But, Cleveland has really just kicked it into high gear the past few weeks, so whether they can keep winning like this down the stretch is unclear.
TOR: G. Chacín (11-6, 3.40)
NYY: S. Chacón (2-1, 1.64)
CHICAGO +107 @ Minnesota, 1PM...Chicago plays better on the road than at home. Why they are the dog here is not very clear. In the past 10 days, the Twins have been pretty hot (except for last night), and perhaps that has something to do with it. But, the Chisox have been MLB's best dog all year, and we'll be happy to take them here. In the long run, we'd profit in such a situation. NO PLAY ON MINNESOTA.
CWS: J. Garland (16-7, 3.43)
MIN: C. Silva (8-6, 3.35)
National League:
FLORIDA +114 @ Milwaukee, 2PM...Marlins have been a bad dog team this year. They will have to start winning these underdog games if they are to make the playoffs. Not only do they have to contend with Philadelphia and Houston, but now they are tied with Washington and the Mets. They'll need to put together a 6 or 7 game winning streak to have a shot at the postseason. The pitching matchup doesn't intimidate us... the question is, which Marlins team is going to show up. The have been inconsistent all year. If they lose 3 straight in Milwaukee, then they are asking for trouble. Their schedule only begins to get hard after this road trip. They better win here and in Chicago over the weekend.
FLA: B. Moehler (6-9, 3.79)
MIL: D. Davis (9-9, 4.15) |
