Notes:
Chicago blew a ninth inning 2-1 two out lead, and needed 10th innning heroics to win it. Hermanson got the win for Chicago, which is riduculous given that he was the responsible party for blowing the two out lead in the 9th to begin with.
The Sox are still the best dog in baseball overall this season, but as of late, this is not the same White Sox team we had seen all season. Their offense has been out to lunch, and if they play like this in the playoffs, they'll be first round fodder. We hope they do well, but they need a jolt of some sort.
----
The Nats are toast. They now have to face St. Louis and Atlanta the next seven games, and don't get any kind of a break from good teams until very late when they play San Francisco. They couldn't dispose of weaker teams at home, and now they have a major uphill battle on their hands.
Any futures bet on them, no matter how good the odds, would be unwise at this point. They might only be a few games out of the Wild Card race, but it is very deceiving - they are not really a factor any more.
-----
Arizona is also all but out of it. It's now clear San Diego will win the NL West division, regardless of how many games under .500 they finish.
The Padres are .500 and they have a 6 1/2 games lead. The Angels and Boston are 19 games over .500 and they both have 2 1/2 game leads. The Padres are in the weakest division in MLB divisional play history.

Final Line Grading Policy for Marginal Dogs:
In the event that the play changes from the overnight newsletter, the closing line at Wagerline.com will be used to grade the game:
http://www.wagerline.com/mlb.asp
The exception to this is if Wagerline mistakenly posts no line for the game (NL) or when Wagerline mistakenly posts the game twice. In such cases, Pinnacle's closing line will be used as an emergency backup source.
When we refer to "Pinnacle's closing line," we're referring to the posted closing line at theRx.com for the line from Pinnacle sportsbook that is that webpage.
Here's where you will find those emergency backup closing lines:

American League:
DETROIT +181 @ Boston, 7PM...Tigers are likely to get whacked here. Boston got embarrassed in Kansas City, and they are likely to take it out on the Cats. Boston is 38-18 at home. Tigers do have a decent road record (just 2 under .500), but they are probably in for a rough series at Fenway.
DET: J. Johnson (7-9, 4.09)
BOS: B. Arroyo (10-8, 4.18)
Cleveland @ TORONTO +135, 7PM...Indians have been playing very well lately. That coupled with McGowan's ERA gives us pause here. Toronto has been one of the best dogs since the All-Star break, however. They are our best performing post-All Star dog.
CLE: C. Sabathia (10-9, 4.76)
TOR: D. McGowan (1-1, 8.63)
Oakland @ BALTIMORE +106, 7:30PM...A's needed two of three in Detroit, and will now need two of three in Baltimore. Orioles do not possess much of a home field advantage. Orioles are still a decent dog for us.
OAK: write in: Blanton
BAL: B. Chen (10-7, 3.95)
Minnesota @ TEXAS +100, 8PM...NO PLAY ON MINNESOTA. Texas has completely fallen apart in recent weeks. They are still above .500 at home, but after appearing like an AL West threat, they have been playing about the worst baseball in the league as of late. Not a vote of confidence here. But, Minnesota is not as strong when Lohse is on the mound. Rangers are still a +2 unit dog for us this year.
MIN: K. Lohse (8-11, 4.09)
TEX: K. Rogers (11-7, 3.27)
CHICAGO +140 @ Seattle, 10PM...Sox have a much better road record than Seattle's home record. Sox are the best in their division - Seattle is the worst in theirs. No matter who is on the hill, we'll take our chances here. Sox are our best performing dog.
CWS: O. Hernandez (8-6, 4.75)
SEA: F. Hernandez (2-1, 1.24)
National League:
Florida @ CHICAGO +123, 2:20PM...Vargas' limited inning numbers are very impressive. Cubs have turned into just a mediocre team but have still netted over 6 units as a dog this season.
FLA: J. Vargas (4-1, 2.43)
CHC: G. Rusch (5-6, 4.21)
St. Louis @ WASHINGTON +118, 7PM...Cards are clicking right now, and the Nats dream season is in the process of disintegrating. Loaiza might be the better pitcher, but the Nats have lost their home dominance that we saw earlier this season. If St. Louis stays healthy, no one in the NL will beat them this post season.
STL: J. Suppan (12-9, 3.94)
WAS: E. Loaiza (8-9, 3.66)
ATLANTA +127 @ Milwaukee, 8PM...Sheets is similar to Kerry Wood of Chicago and Santana of Minnesota - overrated. But Ramirez is a weak link in the ATL rotation, and the Brew Crew can be tough at home. Braves collect the majority of their wins at home, so this will not be easy for us. Atlanta did manage to take two of three in Chicago, and they have to realize that Philly will catch them if they don't continue to pound out the wins.
ATL: H. Ramirez (10-7, 4.61)
MIL: B. Sheets (9-9, 3.44)
Houston @ LOS ANGELES +122, 10:40PM...LA has gone from being one of our best performing NL dogs earlier this year, to one of our worst. Astros are struggling as of late. Dodgers home woes against the Rockies only punctuate their problems. The team is a disaster at this point. Lowe has been awful. Other than that, things are looking up for them.
HOU: A. Pettitte (11-9, 2.67)
LAD: D. Lowe (8-12, 4.20) |
