spent 3 nights at Imperial Palace last week. Here is what I found:

location: great location in center strip

Rooms: not luxurious, but no worse than your average chain hotel (Days Inn, EconoLodge, Motel6, etc). Room was clean, so no complaints

Service: could use improvement. Check-in had a wait of about 30-40 minutes on Friday. Not all windows were open. Check out was the same story. Although the staff was friendly, they were definitely undermanned. Also had a hard time finding a bellhop when needed. Waitresses were reasonably quick in the gaming areas.

Food/Drink: Reasonably priced but sub-par. I only ate at the buffet, but it could use a step up both in variety and freshness. Bar service could be faster (seemed that they were understaffed as well), but drinks were good and priced affordably. Bartenders were generally pretty friendly and quick to comp drinks. Actually, come to think of it, I ate a hamburger while I was in a drunken state at 2 AM, not sure how it tasted.

Casino: small, but generally not crowded. Lots of low-denomination tables. They have a pit of "dealertainers" (dealers dressed up as celebrities) which I found silly, but some might enjoy as part of the "Vegas experience". Not much for the serious video poker player, as i didn't find anything playable (although I understand there is a bank of $5 9/6 Jacks or Better. Dealers were friendly and more laid-back than at most strip casinos.

Sports Book: Not much to speak of. Small viewing area and bar with some TVs. Does not compare to most Vegas books with walls of massive TVs and electronic odds boards. Lines here were on a dry-erase board. They moved the line on an NBA playoff game a half point after a dime bet (not sure if this is standard in Vegas). Fifteen cent lines for baseball.

Poker Room Staff and dealers were very friendly and accomodating. Small poker room, but a lot of space for players. I didn't feel crowded in as I do at many other poker rooms. Not a whole lot of action, usually 2-3 tables at non-peak times, the most I saw at any time was 6 tables. Exclusively Texas Hold'em, mostly 2/4 limit and 1/2 NL with $100 buy. We did get the manager to open up a 3/6 table for us. Generally players were average to poor, definitely a beatable game.

Comps: Accumulated comps can be viewed at any slot machine. Comps seemed to accumulate fairly quickly. Poker play gets you $3/hour in comp dollars, usable for room or food. Casino play also gets you comp dollars. Slot and video poker play ives you comp "points" which can be redeemed for merchandise or cash.

Price: Very afforable. I was on group rate, but paid $110 Friday and Saturday and $69 Sunday. Quite reasonable considering the location.

Overall: Although it is certainly not a luxury establishment, Imperial Palace is a good choice for someone looking for an affordable hotel in a great location. For some of your gaming and dining needs, you may need to go elsewhere though.
