All major and mid size operations report sizeable profits for the month of September, all well into the lower 7 digits upwards. Recreational shops hold of the current month slightly exceeds 7% in average. This data confirms the positive trend sports books have been enjoying throughout baseball season, credited as one of the most profitable baseball seasons ever, with hold averaging between 6% and 7%. To the contrary smaller operations, the ones with a number of actives of less than 200, report breaking even or small losses in the month. |

Volume of course, plays a huge roll but another element in the NFL has been the number of blowouts. Books love blowouts, it kills all the teasers. Several, "pseudo", good teams have been aweful, disconcerting bettors and increasing books profits, Viks, Pack, Chargers and Ravens! |

Am not surprised they had their best baseball season with all the crazy volume they were getting from that "Asian whale" action. Or at least those books that aren't scared of taking a bet. |

Isn't 5% about expected hold if everyone charges 110?
With 105 and 107 books around in baseball, I would guess 3% or 4% is most likely for this time of year.
Why the 7% ? Lots of soccer action?
Are these "Asian Whales" betting only favorites? Seems to me any shop worth a lick would take all they could get of that whale action and lay some off if they are scared. |
