Umpires should be a factor, since they have influence on the game. It is said that umpires in the National league have a bigger "strike zone" than the ones in the American league, therefore I would say they have a big influence on the pitcher.

If an umpire has a "big strike zone" the pitcher might get away easier with balls being called strikes. This will also reflect on the batters.

Umpires play a huge roll in games. Pitchers that are wild really have a tough time with small strike zones. Great for totals.
