i never understood why some books post odds on certain events like the new pope. i understand there might be a dollar in it for them. but, don't they have any morals at all or what.

Don't remember all the facts but it went something like this. A book put up over/under odds on the amount of crashes in a Nascar race. One more crash was needed to go over. People that bet the over were yelling crash, crash. After that they no longer put up that prop.
